More from Review Santa Fe.

After getting to know her a little via Twitter, I finally got to meet Jennifer Loeber in person. We spent some good times hanging out, and she's as awesome a person as she is a photographer.

At Review Santa Fe, Jennifer shared the beautiful matte prints from her series Cruel Story of Youth. I'm infatuated with the way the warm, muted palette lends a softer gaze to the affable awkwardness or precociousness of her teenage subjects. It's easy to project the difficulty or frivolity, the gawky agony or unburdened wackiness of your own youth into these scenes of carefree summers in the woods. But quickly you move past the nostalgia and begin to admire the complexity of each of her subjects, the sort of vulnerable, burgeoning quality to their adolescent identities.
